Mr. Burrus grew up here in Houston, attended HISD schools and graduated from Bellaire High School. He then went on to get his BA in Spanish from Dartmouth College and his MS in Applied Mathematics from the University of Houston. He first started teaching high school math in 1989 at his alma mater, Bellaire High School. In the 1990's he left education and worked as an actuarial consultant for seven years before returning to the classroom in 2003. He has taught every subject in high school math at one point or another. Contrary to popular myth, Mr. Burrus cannot divide by zero.
Mr. Burrus's entire family is in HISD: his son and daughter both attend HISD schools, and his wife teaches music at Neff Elementary School. He originally met his wife in algebra class in high school.
When not teaching, Mr. Burrus enjoys playing guitar and piano, as well as riding his bicycle and paddling his kayak. He is also a college sports fan, and has developed his own football computer ranking system.
When teaching, he can be found in room 254A, at extension 352, or at the above email address.
Mr. Burrus is available for tutoring on most Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school from 3:30 to 4:30. Check his calendar for particular dates.
