Clubs at CECHS

Every student at Challenge Early College High School is a member of a club, which meets the last hour of every Friday. The following is a list of the wide variety of clubs students have to choose from. Click here for a printable listing of the clubs.

The Ambassador's Club

The Ambassador's Club is a service club that provides information concerning Personal Graduation Portfolios (includes information about graduation criteria, career pathways, grade point averages, etc.) and College Readiness (includes the college application process, curriculum vitae/competitive resume, essay writing, SAT/ACT prep, Career Pathways, etc.). If you have a question, the Ambassadors will have the answer (or find the answer). This group hosts all school-wide presentations of college/career programs and seminars. They are the “G-Force”.

Business Professionals of America

BPA, based in Columbus, Ohio, is for students enrolled in business education. With its more than 51,000 members in over 2,300 chapters in 23 states, BPA is the leading CTSO (Career Technical Student Organization) for students pursuing careers in business. BPA was established to contribute to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills. Business Professionals of America will be a cohesive agent in the worldwide networking of education, business, and industry. Business Professionals of America will be the leading student organization in preparing a world-class workforce. Business Professionals of America will set a standard of excellence for vocational student organizations.

The CECHS Dance Team

The Dance Team is an entertainment service club that provides vibrant, creative, and global dance to audiences in the greater Houston area. This team expresses global unity and CECHS pride through their dance and music. In 2008, the CECHS Dance Team performed at Houston 's downtown Via Colori. This Street Painting Festival is an upscale signature special event which raises funds for not-for-profit organizations throughout the United States. They were spectacular. The team plans to continue to share their talents and skills to help students and others know that life is what you make it and you can make a difference through expressions in dance.

Cinema Club

A club for cinema fans to watch and engage in discussions of a variety of films from such genres as Action, Comedy, Western, Sci-Fi, Romance, Drama, Documentary, Musical, Thriller, Horror, Foreign, and Cartoon.

Comic Book Club

A club with normal fall back activities like comic based movies, animes, reading and drawing comics. Everything in Comic Book Club is decided democratically. The current President is Akono Kamau, with Devon Roell as Vice President. The club members are currently working on creating a comic book to generate funds for the club.

Community Service Club

A place for students to team up to engage in large community service projects such as organizing the annual HCC Safe Halloween Carnival, as well as smaller projects such as cleaning up the school and running food drives. Students will gain Community Service Hours for their efforts, which will go toward their 100 hour graduation requirement and will get a sense of accomplishment.

Debate Club

A club providing members of the Urban Debate League with more time for researching and preparing for competitions. The Urban Debate League is designed to teach students courtroom-style debate, and Challenge debate members will participate in 5 competitions this year with other high schools around Houston.

Eagles Club

A club for students to get helpful information about scholarships and applying to colleges, as well as test prep information and other resources.

Fitness Club

A time for students to participate and exercise in the gym to become more fit and improve their overall physical and mental well-being.

Freshmen Writing

A club for Freshmen who need extra help to improve their writing skills to succeed in English I.

MCNC/Student Conference

The Middle College National Consortium is a group of Early College and Middle College High Schools that meet and work to improve education and refine the Middle and Early college education models. As a part of this a group of 8 Challenge Students are chosen each year for their leadership, hard work and dedication to the environment to do a research project, a community service project and to then present their work at the Annual Leadership Conference during late April. This year's conference will be held in Greenville South Carolina. The topic for the year is rivers. This is a year long club due to the complexity of the research and service components that must be completed.

Pop Choir

This is a just-for-fun group for students who like to sing pop songs. It is also for the Sweeney Todd cast to work on their music. They plan to sing at lunch a couple of times this semester.

Student Discussion

The name of my club is Student Discussion Forum (aka Gabbin' with your homies). Each week the club discusses issues that are one everyone's mind. We speak about anything from Obama receiving Nobel Peace Prize to physical appearance in the work place to issues at school. We do have norms that everyone must follow and nothing is planned in advance. We discuss whatever issues are on people's minds that day. The discussion often times gets heated, but everyone always respects others.

Wolfpack Music Club

A club devoted to practicing both acoustic and electric guitar, as well as other instruments. It gives students an opportunity to share music with each other, as well as teach and just jam.

Yearbook

A club for students, both members and nonmembers of yearbook class, to help contribute to the Challenge Yearbook
