New Procedures for All Returning Volunteers

Thank you for volunteering in the Houston Independent School District. Effective August 22, 2011, all volunteers currently registered in HISD’s volunteer database prior to June 1, 2011 will be placed in Inactive Status.

*A returning volunteer is a person who has already registered online prior to June 1, 2011 and has been cleared to volunteer in HISD.

To become a returning volunteer in HISD is as simple as 1, 2, 3…

Step 1: Confirm that you are a returning volunteer and not a new volunteer. Note: If you are a new volunteer, please register online and follow the steps outlined for all new volunteers.

Step 2: Returning volunteers will not need to register online again. However, in order to return as volunteer in HISD, returning volunteers must go in person to the school of interest and show their identification to the school’s Volunteers In Schools Information Tracking System (VISITS) coordinator for the resubmission of the background check. The background check process may take 2 – 3 weeks.

Step 3: Contact the school’s VISITS coordinator for your status. Once CLEARED to volunteer, you are eligible to volunteer throughout the HISD for the 2011 – 2012 school year.
